Driving efficiency and better records management with Microsoft 365

MacGeorge & Co. needed an information management system to organise client records for AI processing, eliminate manual email filing, and enable system integrations.

What we delivered:

  • A SharePoint document management system that structures records for AI accessibility and intuitive navigation

  • Automated email processing using Power Automate to capture and file correspondence with metadata

  • A custom email categorisation system to prioritise high-value client communications.

Professional consulting experience of the SAVERA principal as a contractor/consultant for these organisations.

Department of Internal Affairs

Led the technical delivery of modernisation of DIA’s information management system, including migrations, automation solutions and a bespoke ASP.NET application. Key contributions included:

  • Secure migration comprising right-sized infrastructure and migration planning, coordinating three vendor partners to migrate data from SharePoint 2016 to SharePoint Online

  • An automated site provisioning solution integrating AvePoint, Power Automate, and Azure services — reducing sites and teams creation time from hours to minutes

  • A custom ASP.NET link redirection application to preserve legacy URL functionality

  • Contributing to the design of a compliant information management system meeting Public Records Act and government security requirements

  • Technical advisory and problem-solving across security, migration challenges, quality assurance, and BAU support.

The engagement delivered a modern, secure information management platform that enhanced productivity, ensured regulatory compliance, and positioned DIA for future AI and automation capabilities.

Ministry of Health, New Zealand

Worked hands-on across multiple Ministry modernisation initiatives, delivering technical solutions and operational improvements. Key contributions included:

  • Developing and implementing an automated migration solution that maximised parallel migrations to significantly improve throughput during the Lotus Notes to SharePoint Online migration, successfully managing the transfer of approximately 80 million documents using the ShareGate tool

  • Developed SharePoint site architecture, metadata architecture and permission model to ensure accessibility of migrated data while protecting sensitive content

  • Developed a SharePoint PnP-based customised search solution to enable metadata-driven search

  • Leading the deployment of AvePoint Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 workloads to enhance data resilience and recovery capabilities

  • Collaborating with the Ministry’s Architecture team and actively participating in Architecture Review Group (ARG) sessions to present solution designs, address security and compliance requirements, and obtain critical certifications and approvals in line with New Zealand Information Security Manual (NZISM)

  • Producing clear technical documentation and delivering training for operational handovers to support the long-term sustainability of delivered solutions

CCL (now merged with Spark)

Led key components of a Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migration following a business merger, ensuring secure and efficient transition of services and workloads. Key contributions included:

  • End-to-end M365 tenant-to-tenant migration strategy for subsidiary consolidation

  • Entra ID (Azure AD) identity migration, SharePoint, Exchange, and Teams workload migrations, while maintaining business continuity

  • Azure DevOps migration preserving development workflows, repositories, and project histories

  • Contributed to the development of the Microsoft 365 security framework aligned with government security standards

Served as a trusted developer and administrator over many years at Contact Energy to deliver a range of successful solutions, from M365 global administrator, technical support, to bespoke development.

  • Complete Microsoft 365 tenant setup and configuration from foundation to production-ready platform

  • Identity and access management, including Entra ID (Azure AD) synchronisation, conditional access policies, and multi-factor authentication
